“It is too bad Sedalians can’t stop calling about the smoking ban. The job market here is terrible. Poverty, people having to use the big banks, crime and drugs on the streets — the world is literally falling apart around Sedalians and all they worry about is smoking? Idiotic stuff. I hope the ban does pass.”

“Who will enforce the smoking ban ordinance?”

“Springfield tried to do a smoking ban with all those exceptions, but they had to go back and correct it and now you can’t smoke any place in Springfield. Why not do that from the beginning? Some of us can never go to the private clubs because of the smoke. Try to do it right the first time.”

“I just read the letter in the June 11 paper. I would like to also vote for what John Bozarth Sr. said about ‘Let Sedalia be Sedalia.’ The city council needs to stay out of trying to govern all of our lives.”

“Eye doctor: Do you smoke?

“Me: No. I do have a part time job where it is smoky.

“ED: Second-hand smoke. That explains why the blood vessel pulse is slow and the blood color is dull.

“At an appointment one year later, after which I had not been at that job site for four months, blood pulse and color of my eye back to normal. Please don’t tell me second-hand smoke has no effect on others.”

“Are you crazy? You say only the individual smoker pays the bill for smoking. We all pay. The Medicare, the Medicaid, the disability costs for the smoker’s hospital bills when their lungs finally give out. It is costing all of us a lot of money.”

“If only the person smoking gets hurt, then why do people that don’t smoke that breathe in the smokers smoke die each year? I am only 11 years old and even I know that.”

“I do not understand why it takes city council so long to decide whether to vote on smoking issue or put it to a vote of the people. Please, just put it to a vote of the people. That is the only fair way to do it.”

“What is wrong with the small city of Sedalia regarding a smoking ban? Cities like Kansas City and  Columbia have a smoking ban to protect all of the citizens. Sedalia should have had a ban a long time ago. The lady that stated she had been around smoking for 48 years with no danger — well, how fortunate for her. Unfortunately, there are thousands dead due to secondhand smoking across the nation. It is time to protect all citizens. It has been proven that the ban does not harm businesses. If you want to smoke and harm the health of you and your family, please do it in your own home.”
