The Smith-Cotton girls basketball team put together a second-half rally to open the West Central Conference schedule with a 38-33 win at Nevada on Friday.

Nevada led 23-14 at halftime but S-C pressed in the second half and pulled in front with a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter.

“This last week in practice, we really worked on more defense and rotating around, working on boxing out,” said Lady Tigers coach Zach Vandevender.

Cheyanne Tumlinson led S-C with 10 points. Mia Hawkins and Kiara Williams each scored nine. Darby Christian added eight.

Smith-Cotton (1-4, 1-0 WCC) will host Clinton on Tuesday.

Van Horn 61, Knob Noster 34

The Knob Noster Lady Panthers fell 61-34 to Van Horn on Friday.

Van Horn jumped out to a 26-6 lead after one and never looked back.

Jessica Sader scored 16 for Knob Noster.

Knob Noster (0-4) will host Richmond on Monday.

Skyline 77, Warsaw 21

Warsaw fell to Skyline 77-21 on Friday.

Skyline jumped into the lead with 29 points in the first and outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-8 in the second and 22-8 in the third.

Warsaw (1-5) will visit Sacred Heart on Monday.


Concordia 52, Orrick 40

Concordia claimed seventh place in the I-70 Conference Tournament with a 52-40 win over Orrick on Friday.

The Orioles led 23-19 at halftime but held Orrick to four points in the third quarter to pull away.

Jordan Schlueter led Concordia with 29 points.

Sacred Heart 67, Green Ridge 24

Sacred Heart hit nine 3-pointers in a 67-24 win at Green Ridge on Friday.

Alden Harding led the Gremlins with 19 points. Will Prenger had 13. Micah Tanguay added 10.

Sacred Heart (4-2, 2-0 Kaysinger) will play at Warsaw on Monday.

Green Ridge will visit Stover on Tuesday.

Skyline 84, Warsaw 66

Warsaw fell to Skyline 84-66 on Friday.

Matt Luebbert had 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Wildcats. Austin McCan had 17 points. Dayton Krueger added 11. Logan Davis had 10 assists.

Warsaw (0-4) will host Sacred Heart on Monday.

Leeton 68, La Monte 51

La Monte fell 68-52 to No. 4 Leeton in the second round of the Mid-State Tournament on Thursday.

The Vikings trailed 19-12 after one quarter before Leeton used its size to extend the lead.

Alejandro Garcia led La Monte with 10 points and nine rebounds. Tristan Hackworth and Antonio Villagomez each scored eight points

Crest Ridge 57, Concordia 20

Concordia fell 57-20 to Crest Ridge on Thursday.

Tate Bitteker scored five points for the Orioles.


Boonville 30. Smith-Cotton 21

The Smith-Cotton wrestling team fell to Boonville 30-21 in a dual on Thursday.

At 113 pounds, Younger Layton pinned Boonville’s Andrew Kraus in 1:54. Izaiah Snyder claimed a 6-1 decision at 195 pounds. Michael Laster won the heavyweight match with a pinfall at 2:59.
