Jacob Harlan got the shutout in goal as Sacred Heart defeated Smithton 2-0 in soccer Thursday at  Clover Dell Park.

The Gremlins improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Kaysinger Conference.

Ed Koenig scored 11 minutes in to give Sacred Heart the early lead and Wes Register scored an insurance goal with 7 minutes left in the game.

Lincoln 4, Green Ridge 1

Earl Pierce scored three goals and Bryan Eichler had a goal and two assists as the Cardinals eased to victory on Tuesday.

The Cardinals evened their record at 1-1-1 while moving to 1-0-1 in the Kaysinger Conference.

Lincoln led 3-1 at halftime.

Jefferson City JV 2, Stover 1

Jefferson City’s junior varsity took advantage of defensive breakdowns for two first-half goals and hung on to win Thursday.

Justin Rosa scored for Stover in the second half when he followed a Jesse Sack shot that went off the crossbar.

Landon Rymer, Chris LeClair, Jordan Haag and Jordan Folsom were praised for strong defensive play, as Stover had to go to several reserves seeing their first varsity action because of injuries and school activities that kept some Bulldogs out.


Smith-Cotton 2, Versailles 0

The Lady Tigers evened their record at 6-6 with a 25-19, 25-19 sweep at Versailles.

Kristi Miller had 17 assists for Smith-Cotton and Katie Knight slammed home 13 kills.

Green Ridge 2, Lincoln 0

The Tigers picked up their first Kaysinger Conference victory while moving to 8-4 overall with a 25-20, 25-21 victory on Thursday.

Ashley Hampton had seven assists for Green Ridge. Diane Ehlers and Laurel Larimore led the team in kills with four each, Kristen Morton had 11 digs.

For Lincoln, Trisha Cook had nine kills, four blocks and nine digs while Shyanne Swearngin scored six points and dealt out nine assists. Audra Blackburn also had nine digs.

Lincoln fell to 2-8 and 0-2 in the conference.

Green Ridge won the junior high “A” team match 25-23, 25-12 and the “B” team match 36-32.

Tipton 2, Centralia 0

Tipton had to work a little and then cruised in the second game in sweeping Centralia 25-18, 25-5 on Thursday in Tipton.

Chelsey Hainen had seven kills and seven assists for the Cardinals. Shelby Knipp had three blocks, Christina Murphy served for six aces and Logan Diggs had five aces and six assists.

Tipton also won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-16.


Knob Noster 8, Odessa 1

The Panthers had little trouble on Thursday, winning all but one match with no match closer than four points.

In singles play, Ericka Kjos defeated Alyssa Cowman 8-1; Ashley Kjos beat Summer Pruett 8-3; Caitlin McKinney beat Amber Deebles 8-0; Brooklyn Wagner beat Annice Jarvis 8-1 and Carlee Byers beat Samantha West 8-3. Oak Grove’s Molly Hotmer beat Markeisha Fewell 8-2.

In doubles, it was Kjos-Kjos over Cowman-Hotmer 8-1; McKinney-Wagner over Pruett-Peebles 8-0; and Fewell-Byers over Jarvis-West 8-4.


Knob Noster 2, Holden 1

Knob Noster pushed across two runs in the fifth inning to gain the Missouri River Valley Conference win at Knob Noster.

Brandi Sahfeld shut out Holden after allowing a run in the second.

Sahfeld and Brandy Potter each went 1-for-2 and drove in the Panthers’ runs. Potter also scored a run for Knob Noster  (2-5, 2-3 MRVC).
