An 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter helped Tipton pull away from Stover to win 61-40 in the third-place game of the W-K Kaysinger Conference girls basketball tournament Friday at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
Tipton led 40-32 after three and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-8 in the final quarter. Tipton led 18-9 after one and 28-21 at halftime.
“Our shooting got cold there in the second quarter and the first part of the third quarter, but then we picked it back up and got back where we needed to be,” said Tipton coach Jason Culepepper.
Loryn Hirst scored 11 points in the first quarter and finished with a career-high 33. Ashton Pace added 11 points.
“Caroline (Combs) made some really good passes to Loryn and Loryn did a really good job of attacking the basket,” Culpepper said.
Amy Schroeder led Stover with 16 points.
Stover (13-13) will host Smithton at 6:45 p.m. Monday.
Tipton (13-12) will host Concordia at 7 p.m. Thursday to close the regular season.
