College football: Mules picked to finish 4th in coaches poll
The Central Missouri Mules, returning 16 starters from last season, have been picked to finish fourth in the MIAA, according to a poll of the league’s coaches.
Media covering the league voted the Mules sixth.
Both polls were announced Monday during the MIAA Football Media Day in Kansas City.
Defending MIAA champion, Missouri Western, tied with Northwest Missouri for first place in the coaches poll and was second in the media survey.
Northwest Missouri received 300 points and 10 first-place votes by the media. Missouri Western totaled 294.
Pittsburg State had the other two first-place votes and 276 points for third.
Washburn (231) was fourth, Lindenwood (221) fifth, Central Missouri (205) sixth and Emporia State (197) seventh. Missouri Southern (138) and Fort Hays State (138) tied for eighth, Northeastern State (125) was 10th, Central Oklahoma (113) 11th, Nebraska-Kearney (96) 12th, Southwest Baptist (52) 13rd and Lincoln (29) 14th.
In the coaches poll, Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri had six first-place points and 159 points each.
Pittsburg State was third was two first-place votes and 145 points, and the Mules tallied 119.
Lindenwood (117) was fifth, Washburn (116) sixth, Emporia State (113) seventh, Fort Hays State (70) eighth, Missouri Southern (68) ninth, Central Oklahoma (57) 10th, Northeastern State (56) 11th, Nebraska-Kearney (51) 12th, Southwest Baptist (30) 13th and Lincoln (14) 14th.
The Mules’ season begins at 7:07 p.m. Sept. 5 when the Mules host Missouri Western at Warrensburg.
