I didnít sleep well last night. I kept having a reoccurring nightmare that the Kansas City Chiefs have the potential to be the worst team in the NFL.

This morning I realized it wasnít a dream. It was reality.

Todayís NFL Draft could be the most vital draft in Chiefs history. Kansas City will have an NFL high 13 picks today. Of the top 82 choices, the Chiefs will choose six guys ó hopefully studs.

With the recent loss of Pro Bowl and franchise player Jared Allen, the holes in the Chiefs lineup are everywhere.

Here is a list of positions that the Chiefs need to fill in a hurry!

Quarterback: Brodie Croyle needs competition for the starting spot. He may not be the answer the Chiefs have been looking for.

Wide receiver: They just donít have any. Dwayne Bowe is decent.

Offensive line: It wonít matter if the Chiefs have Joe Montana in his prime behind center, if the O-line canít block, it will be another long season.

Defensive line: The days of Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith and Dan Saleaumua are over, and the departure of Allen only makes things worse.

Cornerback: I honestly canít name any off the top of my head.

Linebacker: They do have Donnie Edwards, but beyond that, not much.

Free safety: Greg Wesley, Bernard Pollard and Jared Page ó thatís the best theyíve got. Kind of sad.

Place-kicker: John Carney is 44 years old. Anything beyond 40 yards is out of his range.

Things could be worse.† We do have Tony Gonzalez and a guy who didnít play last year ó† I just forgot his name ó oh yeah, Larry Johnson.

But Kansas City fans, donít throw in the towel yet. There is hope, 13 of them in fact. The 13 picks the Chiefs have this year will help.

There are so many things that can happen on draft day. Do the Chiefs trade down and get a couple more picks? Some think so. Do the Chiefs pick the best all-around player with their fifth pick or do they get position players that best fit them?

First thing is first, itís imperative that they have an offensive line. Look for the Chiefs to draft Branden Albert or Ryan Clady. Both guys are solid offensive tackles.

I would be extremely disappointed if the Chiefs drafted a defensive tackle with their fifth overall pick. Why would Carl Peterson trade a proven, young and aggressive player like Allen, just to turn around and draft an unproven rookie? That wouldnít make sense.

Some people think that if Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan slips to the fifth spot, the Chiefs should pick him up. I think it would be exciting to have Ryan. Maybe it will jolt some energy into a below-average team.

As you can see, the draft can get a little messy. All I know is that if Peterson drafts another Junior Siavii or Ryan Sims, I just might have to find a new team.

Today will make or break for Chiefs fans everywhere. It could be a positive step in rebuilding a fallen franchise, or it could mean 38 more years of trade mistakes, draft busts and broken hearts of Chiefs fans everywhere.
