Top-seeded Sacred Heart  rolled past La Monte 62-30 in the first round of the Class 2, District 14 boys basketball tournament Saturday at Sweet Springs.

The Gremlins (22-4) will meet the Green Ridge-Concordia winner in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Sacred Heart held quarter leads of 18-7, 40-17 and 59-23.

Malik Hackett scored a game-high 17 points for the Gremlins. Riley Simmons tallied 12, and Clint Spangler and Chase Lyles had nine each.

Trent Ellis led La Monte with eight points. The Vikings’ top scorer, Seth Johnson, was held to seven points. Johnson averaged around 20 a game this season.

Sacred Heart coach Steve Goodwin commended the defense of Lyles on Johnson.
