PREP ROUNDUP: Gremlin netters stumble at Columbia Hickman
The Sacred Heart volleyball team lost a non-conference match to Hickman in three games on Wednesday in Columbia. The Gremlins lost 21-25, 25-10, 25-13.
“Game one was exciting. The girls played real well,” Sacred Heart coach David Fall said. “Then we had a letdown in games two and three.”
Erica Stone and Kelli Lamb both had six kills to lead the Gremlins (12-10-3, 5-0 Kaysinger Conference). Stone had nine digs, and Johannah Hohne and Rachel Fritz chipped in with eight apiece. Rachel Fisher led the way with eight assists.
Concordia 2, Sweet Springs 0
Concordia swept a volleyball match against Sweet Springs 25-12, 26-24 on Tuesday at Concordia.
In the loss, Kristin Jones and Haley Hunter led the Lady Greyhounds with three kills apiece. Kathleen Tyler was the team leader in assists (five) and digs (16).
No Concordia statistics were reported.
St. Paul Lutheran 2, Santa Fe 1
St. Paul Lutheran defeated Santa Fe 2-1 on Tuesday in volleyball.
Dana Peters led the Lady Saints with 15 kills, eight blocks and 11 assists. Madison Krause added 11 points and Audrey Mehl had six points. Sara Reister had seven blocks.
Top diggers for St. Paul Lutheran (12-4) were Taylor Vogelsmeier with 38, Marissa Brackman with 27 and Mehl with 23.
Knob Noster 5, Carrollton 3
Knob Noster’s girls tennis team defeated Carrollton 5-3 on Wednesday at home. The Panthers improved to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
In singles, Ashley Kjos beat Gabrielle Madigan 8-4, Sophia Crawshaw beat Rebecca Turner 8-1, Megan Jungnitsch beat Brandy Brock 8-3 and Rebekah Walters beat McKayla Randolph 8-5.
In doubles, Kjos and Crawshaw best Turner and Shelby Silkwood 8-1. Aubrey Wallace and Jungnitsch lost to Madigan and Brock 8-6.
One match was not completed due to rain.
Panthers coach Scott Maple said his No. 3 and 4 players were absent, but “the other girls stepped it up. Rebekah got a decisive win for us at No. 5. It was the first time she played varsity.”
Prairie Home 4, Otterville 0
Jamestown 13, Bunceton 7
Two area teams lost in the first round of the Class 1 District 7 softball tournament Wednesday at Pilot Grove. Otterville lost to Prairie Home 4-0 and Bunceton lost to Jamestown 13-7.
No statistics were reported.
Today, second-seeded Pilot Grove is scheduled to face Jamestown at 7 p.m. If the Tigers win, they would face the New Franklin-Prairie Home winner at 1 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.
