Sacred Heart used a 13-4 third-quarter advantage to pull away from Lincoln 43-33 on Thursday for a Kaysinger Conference road win.
The Gremlins (3-10, 2-4) led 13-12 after one quarter before Lincoln tied it at 22 at the break. Then Sacred Heart went up 35-26 after three frames.
Claudia Cox scored 11 points to pace Sacred Heart. Sydney Smith chipped in 10 points, while Kaityln Sunnarborg tallied six steals.
“Kayla Holland and Honor Kehde and Kaitlyn Sunnarborg played really well defensively,” Gremlins coach Shawn Bestgen said. “We came out in the third quarter and took control there.
Lincoln only had two field goals in the second half, as the Lady Cardinals scored most of their points from the free-throw line.
“We need to do a better job and be smarter on defense and not let teams get to the bonus so easily,” Bestgen said.
Morgan Renno paced Lincoln (2-12, 1-4) with 14 points.
“I think we did a better job quieting her in the second half,” Bestgen said. “Kaitlyn was a big part of that, as was Honor Kehde.”
The Gremlins will open the Slater Tournament at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Higginsville.
