Brandon Cooper scored consecutive goals in the second half Thursday, and the Sacred Heart Gremlins boys soccer team beat La Monte 5-1 to remain unbeaten in Kaysinger Conference play.
The score was tied at 1 at halftime before Cooper broke the tie with a goal with 28:46 left in the match. He scored again at 23:50.
Jimmie Villalobos and Sho Saito added goals in the final 20 minutes for Sacred Heart, which improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Garrett Strange’s goal with 22:26 left in the first half gave the Gremlins a 1-0 lead. Cody Berg scored off an assist by Juan Barajas with 19:28 remaining before halftime.
“I was very pleased with my team’s performance in the first half,” La Monte coach Drew Burris said of his team that fell to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in league play. “It was a back-and-forth game, just going nonstop.”
