Sacred Heart wore teal-colored shirts to raise awareness for ovarian cancer in the first round of the Sacred Heart Cup at Clover Dell. The Lady Gremlins had a strong offensive attack in the second half to beat East High School, from Kansas City, 4-0.



ďThis wasnít our best game,Ē Sacred Heart coach Carlos McField said. ďWe treat this like a playoff game, where we want to win and move on, and thatís what we did.Ē



Sacred Heart started the attack early in the game, but they werenít able to finish. The Lady Gremlins had 11 missed shots in the first half.



The Lady Bears had a couple of runs, but were never able to get past the Lady Gremlins defensive line.



Both teams were scoreless at halftime.



In the 43rd minute, Sacred Heartís Johannah Hohne kicked the ball 18 yards out from the goal. The ball arced over Eastís line of defenders and above the hands of goalie Rosa Mendez, giving the Lady Gremlins a 1-0 lead.



In the 49th minute, Claire Fisher took the corner kick on the right side of the field and passed it off to Justine Dover. Dover crossed the ball to the middle, where Devin Wadley was able to head the ball in, putting the Lady Gremlins ahead by two.



Not long after, Hohne kicked a short pass to Dover, who centered the ball to Wadley. Wadley dribbled through defenders and was one-on-one with the goalie. She scored to increase Sacred Heartís lead to three.



The final goal cam e in the 72nd minute. Erika Beykirch kicked a shot from 20 yards out and scored in the bottom left corner of the goal.



Mendez had 17 saved goals while Sacred Heartís Kelli Lamb only had two.
