The Sedalia Travelers senior Legion team split a doubleheader with Blue Springs Rod’s Sports on Wednesday in Blue Springs, dropping the first game 17-7 on the run rule in six innings and winning the second game 5-4.
Dalton Christian pitched a six-hit complete game in the second game, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs.
“We always look for that one guy to step up, and it was Dalton Christian,” said Travelers manager Mark Carey. “He had his curveball working and when you have an 80 mph curveball working, you’re pretty tough to hit.”
Christian also went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs with a double in the third inning to score Ian Dotson and Zach Bishop.
Henry Tietz had a double in the game to go 1 for 3 with an RBI.
The Travelers scored three runs in the third and two more in the fifth and held on for the win as Rod’s Sports put runners on second and third with two out before Christian induced a fly ball to center field to end the game.
Rod’s Sports jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in game one before the Travelers rallied to cut the lead to 7-6, but Rod’s Sports pulled away again after that.
Austin Bullerd took the loss on the mound, starting and pitching 3 1-3 innings.
Bishop went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Dotson also drove in two runs and Christian drove in a run while going 1 for 3.
The Travelers (14-16) will visit Hi-Boy for a doubleheader at noon Sunday in Independence.
