The Smith-Cotton Tigers knocked off district rival Jefferson City 7-6 Monday at Liberty Park Stadium.
The Tigers, the fifth seed for this weekend’s Class 5, District 9 tournament, held off third-seeded Jefferson City’s seventh-inning rally to improve to 8-14.
The Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead, but Jefferson City scored four in the seventh.
Dalton Christian was the winning pitcher, yielding six runs in six innings, while striking out four.
Austin Hoffmann went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Cody Kozak went 2 for 4 for the Tigers. Chance McMullin and Spencer Ruckman each had two RBIs. Christian went 1 for 2 with one RBI, and Cole Simoncic drove in a run.
Jefferson City (19-5) committed three errors in the loss.
The Tigers will travel to Boonville to take on the Pirates at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will host Helias at 5 p.m. Thursday.
