College baseball: Mules split pair at Southwest Baptist
After poor field conditions caused the games to be moved from Warrensburg to Bolivar, No. 5 Central Missouri split a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Wednesday, winning the first game 3-2 in eight innings before dropping the second 8-6 in 13.
Kyle Grieshaber won the first game with a walk-off home run to left.
After Southwest Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, UCM cut the lead to one with a Samuel Domingue sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third.
The Mules tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a John Oropeza double to center, which scored Brad Wilson.
Jake Hesler got the win in relief, retiring all four batters he faced.
In game two, the Bearcats took the lead in the top of the 13th when Ross Wolfe drew a walk with the bases loaded. Bo Helsel then scored on a failed pick-off play at second.
The Mules were retired one-two-three in the bottom of the inning.
Southwest Baptist took an early 1-0 lead and held it until Grieshaber homered in the sixth.
The Mules loaded the bases in the seventh and eighth but could not score to end the game.
Both teams scored two in the 10th and three in the 11th.
Next, UCM (18-4, 15-3 MIAA) will face Central Oklahoma in a three-game series beginning with a 1 p.m. Friday doubleheader in Edmond, Okla.
