Summer college baseball: St. Joseph 4, Bombers 3, 10 innings
The† St. Joseph Mustangs scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning Saturday night, spoiling an electric performance by† Sedalia Bombers pitcher Robert Greco.
With one out in the 10th and Sam Perez on the mound, Joe Koerper singled, and Carlos Rodrigues doubled him home in a 4-3 MINK League victory in St. Joseph.
Greco struck out 16 batters through nine innings. However, he allowed three runs on six hits and five walks, and the Bombers committed two errors behind him. Greco, who threw 141 pitches, kept the game close by stranding nine baserunners.
His counterpart, Brandon Simmons, pitched a more efficient ballgame. Allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts, he didnít walk a batter and his defense played error-free ball behind him.
Left-hander Jarrod Miller pitched the 10th to pick up the win. He struck out one and didnít allow a hit.
Perez was charged with the loss, yielding one run on two hits in 1-3 of an inning.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Sedalia tied the score in the second.
Cody Webster, who had two of his teamís five hits, doubled to lead off the inning. Zach Wiegel singled, moving Webster to third base. Tony Sandifer followed with a run-scoring double.
The Bombers took a 3-1 lead in the third.
With two outs, Ty White was struck by a pitch, and Nick DeLorenzo homered.
St. Joseph cut its deficit to one in the fourth and tied the score in the fifth.
The Bombers didnít get many other opportunities to score, stranding only three baserunners. St. Joseph retired the final 15 batters of the game.
Brandon Huske, Koerper and Rodrigues had two hits each for St. Joseph, who improved to 16-10 and are one-half game behind first-place Clarinda in the North.
The Bombers (13-10) fell 2 1/2 games behind first-place Nevada† in the South.
Sedalia will face Omaha in a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Sunday in Nebraska.
