Dominique Smith and Ricky Bain threw no-hitters Tuesday in the Sedalia Post 642 junior Legion baseball team’s doubleheader sweep of Boonville.
Smith, who struck out four and walked two in Sedalia’s 12-0 win in the opener, faced the minimum over five innings at Liberty Park Stadium.
Only two runners reached base. The first was picked off at second, and the second was forced out on a double play.
Jacob Bush led Sedalia with two hits. Hunter Bunker tripled and Dustin Broaddus doubled.
Sedalia, which scored two runs in the second and 10 in the fourth, took advantage of seven walks and three hit-batsmen.
Only one runner reached base against Bain in Sedalia’s 8-0 win in the nightcap.
That runner, who reached on an error, was erased on a double play as Bain faced the minimum over five innings. He struck out four and walked no one.
Keil Allison and Dylan Mays had Sedalia’s only hits. Boonville pitching gave up 11 walks and one hit-batsman.
Post 642 scored one run in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Sedalia (21-2) will compete in a tournament in Joplin this weekend. Post 642 will face Pryor, Okla., at 4 p.m. Saturday followed by a game against Joplin. The local team will meet Joplin at 11 a.m. Sunday and Bartlesville, Okla., afterward.
