The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers received strong play from their lower-seeded players Monday and beat rival Warrensburg 5-4 in their girls tennis home opener at Liberty Park.
The Lady Tigers won the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles matches: Ashlee Slack (8-2), Alyssa Schoen (8-6) and Kathleen Matz (8-3).
The Nos. 2 and 3 doubles teams picked up victories: Taylor Smith and Slack won 8-1 and Schoen and Matz won 8-2.
The Lady Tigers (3-0, 2-0 West Central Conference) will travel to Knob Noster today for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference match against the Lady Panthers.
