Smith-Cotton girls cross country second at Warrensburg

The Smith Cotton girls cross country team finished second and the boys finished fourth out of 12 teams at the Warrensburg Invitational on Thursday.



The girls had two top 10 runners. Elizabeth Ulmer finished third with a time of 21 minutes, 8 seconds and Jenny Paul finished 6th with a time of 21:28.



Makayla Rupp finished 15th with a time of 21:58 and Brianna Platt placed 18th with a time of 22:15.



The team finished six points behind Notre Dame de Sion with 60 points.



Matt Lange and Anthony Beck were the top finishers for the boys.



Lange placed 17th and Beck finished 20th for the Tigers.



The junior varsity boys had one medalist in Ryan Ferril, whose time was 21:05.



VOLLEYBALL



Smithton 2, La Monte 0



Down to lone senior Lacy Hiller on senior night because of injuries, Lady Tigers coach Lisa Tatum said her younger players really came through as Smithton swept to a 25-16, 27-25 victory Thursday.



Brittney Millsap had seven aces for the Tigers and Tatum said Paige Dowdy made several key digs.



Knob Noster 2, Lexington 0



The Lady Panthers overcame what coach Jennifer Goodrich termed some uneven play to sweep Lexington 25-22, 25-20 in a Missouri River Valley East Conference match Thursday.



Kelly Malcomb (three kills, seven assists, four aces, six digs) and Christina Jones (four kills, eight assists, seven digs, one block) both had strong all-around nights for Knob Noster. Autumn Kolkmeier led the team in kills with six and Kyra Williams led in digs with eight.



Knob Noster also won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-15.



Tipton 2, Russellville 0



Tipton edged over the .500 mark with a 25-17, 25-13 victory Thursday at Tipton, lifting the Cardinals’ record to 10-9-2.



Shannon Zapf had six assists and four kills for Tipton, while Chelsea Hainen had three kills and seven assists. Lauren Kleithermef also had three kills, and Shelby Knipp contributed three blocks.



Tiipton also won the JV match, 25-17, 25-22.



Green Ridge 2, Stover 0



Green Ridge finished over the .500 mark in Kaysinger Conference play with a 25-16, 25-13 win Thursday at Green Ridge.



Savannah Williams served for 10 points and Ashley Hampton tallied nine assists for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 14-11 and 4-3 in the conference. Laurel Larimore led in kills and digs with seven and 10, respectively.



SOCCER 



Sacred Heart 2, Lincoln 1



Sacred Heart (12-9) improved its Kaysinger Conference record to 4-2 with a 2-1 win over visiting Lincoln on Thursday night.



Both teams failed to score in the first half but Lakin Kehde came up big for the Gremlins in the second half.



Kehde scored in the 43rd minute and the 56th minute to give Sacred Heart the win.
