Junior high boys basketball: Smith-Cotton 51, Warrensburg 44

The Smith-Cotton Junior High eighth-grade boys basketball team went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter in posting a 51-44 win over Warrensburg on Thursday night at Warrensburg Middle School.


Warrensburg held a 24-23 lead at halftime, scoring many buckets in breaking the S-C press. But S-C remained in the hunt with breakaway baskets by Luke Husong and Keoni Hale’s offensive rebounding.


Gavin Jones made a steal and layup to start the fourth quarter, giving S-C it's first lead of the game at 34-32.


S-C (8-1) was led by Hale with 17 points, while Husong and Tanner Powell added 10 each. Warrensburg’s top scorer was Zach Bloemker with 14.
