The wrestling team from Smith-Cotton looked like it had control of its match against Hickman on Monday night after jumping out to a 15-0 lead.
The Tigers lost that lead but rallied to win 39-36 at Smith-Cotton High School.
With his team ahead 3-0, S-C senior Adam Archibeque beat Hickmanís Keith Kimbrough in the 140- pound weight class.
Archibeque scored the first 10 points of the match and entered round three ahead 13-2. Kimbrough started the round on top, but Archibeque reversed it in the roundís first 3 seconds and pinned his opponent early in the third round.
The Kewpies trailed 15-0 when Drae Cox pinned Smith-Cottonís Jon Wright in the first round of their match. Hickmanís Terrell Shannon pinned Darren Heaton in the third round, and S-Cís lead was reduced to 15-12.
After a scoreless first round in the 171-pound class, Hickmanís Matt McHugh pinned Daniel Wheeler in the first 11 seconds of round two, giving Hickman an 18-15 lead.
Ben Fredrickson scored six points for the Tigers with a pin of Richard Kennedy in the 189-pound class, putting S-C ahead 21-18.
Hickman stayed close. The Tigers held a 33-30 lead when freshman Josh Brust secured the victory for his team. He pinned Kit Moore to extend the Tigersí lead to nine points with one match remaining.
