Cole Camp opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to beat Green Ridge 43-33 in the fifth-place game at the W-K Kaysinger Conference girls basketball tournament on Friday at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
The Lady Tigers led 26-24 heading into the final period after Hali Niceswander hit a 3-pointer from 30 feet to beat the buzzer, but with Green Ridge sophomore center Libby Dove on the bench with foul trouble early in the fourth, Cole Camp’s low post of Emily Pritzel and Kimmi Finkiewicz had more room to work.
“We just knew that both teams were going to be tired,” said Cole Camp coach Brooke Ogle. “This is our fourth game in a week and we just had to be mentally tougher and see who can hit their outside shots when their legs get tired.”
Green Ridge led 6-4 after one quarter and 13-7 with 2:30 left in the second before Cole Camp went on an 8-3 run to close the half, capped off by Kaleena Logan’s jumper at the buzzer that cut the Green Ridge lead to 16-15.
Pritzel had 13 points to lead Cole Camp. Kaylee Kestner scored 10. Finkiewicz added seven, six of them in the fourth quarter one night after leading the Bluebirds with 13.
“She’s peaking at the right time hopefully,” Ogle said. “We’ve gone through stretches that different people on any given night can step up. We’ve been working on a lot of shooting so that when people pick up Kaleena and Kaylee, she’ll be the one.”
Ragin Dillon led Green Ridge with 14.
Cole Camp (15-10) will play at Windsor at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
Green Ridge (15-9) will play at Sacred Heart at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
