Tipton needed 10 innings but beat Russellville 3-2 in a nonconference baseball game on Wednesday in Russellville.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the second inning and held a 2-0 lead until Russellville tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. The teams played a scoreless seventh, eighth and ninth before Tipton regained the lead in the 10th and won.
Chad Stover started for Tipton and worked five-plus innings, striking out seven while walking one in a no-decision. Wade Wood worked the next two innings and did not allow a hit. Grant Huhmann worked the ninth and 10th and struck out five to earn the win.
Riley Brant went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. He was also hit by a pitch and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Luke Mercer went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored.
Tipton beat Stover 20-4 on the run rule in a Kaysinger Conference game Tuesday at Stover.
Tipton (13-3) will open the Class 2, District 8 tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday at New Bloomfield against the winner of the first- round game between Linn and Father Tolton.
