S-C’s top players excel in win

The Sedalia Democrat

Smith-Cotton’s top three players opened the girls tennis season on a winning note Monday at Liberty Park.

The Lady Tigers beat West Central Conference newcomer Kansas City Center 5-4.

No. 1 Chelsey Muths, No. 2 Sarah Rae and No. 3 Rebecca Wooldridge won in singles and doubles.

Muths beat Gloria Vasquez 8-4, Rae beat Megan Bondurant 8-2 and Wooldridge beat Joanna Briones 8-5.

In doubles, Muths-Rae beat Vazquez and Maria Soriano 8-5, and Wooldridge and Susan Bell beat Bondurant and Briones 8-4.

Amber Smith and Cynthia Galarza beat Kyra  Kendrick and Faith Grinstead 8-2 in the other doubles match.

In other singles matches, Soriano beat Bell 9-7, Smith beat Kendrick 8-6 and Galarza beat Grinstead 8-5.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Knob Noster for a match at 4 p.m. today.
