Culpepper leads Lincoln past Lakeland

Jason Culpepper’s 23 points vaulted Lincoln (3-1) to a commanding 56-44 win against Lakeland on Friday night. 

The Cardinals led 47-19 after three quarters and relied on in its second- and third-string teams to close out the game midway through the third quarter.

Skyline 79, Warsaw 56

Corey Stackhouse’s 25 points weren’t enough for Warsaw as Skyline stretched the lead in the second and third quarters en route to a dominating win Friday.

Clint Schwach added 10 points for the Wildcats in the loss.

Santa Fe 95, Sweet Springs 29

Home-court advantage didn’t mean much Thursday night as Bryan Sanders’ 27 points led the Chiefs to an impressive 66-point win against Sweet Springs in the semifinals of the I-70 Tournament. 

Santa Fe led 21-13 after the first  quarter but Sanders scored 17 in the second frame to extend the lead to 53-20. The Chiefs held the Greyhounds to nine second-half points en route to the blowout win.

Including Sanders, the Chiefs had five players score in double figures. Matt Lovercamp added 13 points, Ben Catlelt and Brett Case scored 11 each, and Jeff Knipmeyer contributed 10 points.

Top-seed Santa Fe will face sixth-seeded Windsor in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Windsor 42, St. Paul 37

Windsor advanced to the I-70 championship game with a fourth-quarter comeback against St. Paul on Thursday night. 

The Greyhounds led 22-18 at the half but were outscored 14-5 in the third quarter. Down 32-27, Windsor’s Corey Buford scored seven of his team-high 19 points to put the Greyhounds in the win column.

St. Paul’s Jordan Bredehoeft led all scorers with 21 points and teammate Brandon Haake contributed nine points.

Crest Ridge 61, Concordia 52

Down 34-16 at the half, Tucker Wagoner scored 11 of his 18 points after the break to lead Crest Ridge to a I-70 Tournament consolation win Thursday night.

Chad Siegried added 13 points for the Cougars and teammates Ethan Shackelford and Alex Everhart scored nine.

Chase Brackman scored a team-high 13 points for Concordia.

Crest Ridge will face Wellington in the fifth-place game at 4:30 p.m. today.

Wellington 61, Orrick 27

Wellington had three players score in double digits Thursday night en route to a commanding consolation win in the I-70 Tournament.

Wellington’s Cameron Seitz had a game-high 15 points, Brett Williams added 11 points and Joey Mulheron scored 10.

Cam McGlothlin led Orrick with 11 points in the loss.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Orrick 53, Sweet Springs 41

Megan Swartz and Amanda Kodenberg combined for 23 points to lead Orrick past Sweet Springs in the 1-70 championship game on Friday. 

Sweet Spring’s Stephanie Krause added a team-high 16 points and Kristen Jones scored 10.

Camdenton 53, Smith-Cotton 44

Smith-Cotton cut the lead to four points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers couldn’t score in the closing minutes to complete the comeback against Camdenton Thursday night.

“It was a good, hard-fought game but we couldn’t score when it mattered most,” Smith-Cotton coach Chris Parsons said.

Christian Sharp was the only offensive bright spot, scoring 21 points in the loss.

Smith-Cotton will host K.C. Center at the Smith-Cotton gym at 7 tonight.

Versailles 54, Lincoln 47

Versailles forced 34 turnovers en route to a hard-fought win against Lincoln on the road Thursday night.

Lincoln trailed 28-23 at the half and Versailles extended the lead in the second half.

Lincoln’s Shyanne Swearngin scored 12 and Trisha Cook added 10 points in the loss.
