Rock Curry, of Sacred Heart, gave his head football coach, Martin Zerilli, something to ponder following Friday night’s football game against Cole Camp.
The Gremlins lost 54-30 but outscored Cole Camp 23-7 with Curry at quarterback.
Curry replaced starter Nicolai Cox in the second half with the Gremlins trailing 34-7.
Cox moved to running back where he gained 51 yards on seven carries, including a 39-yarder for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Curry completed nine of 13 passes for 117 yards. Cox connected on one of four attempts for 11 yards.
Following the game, Zerilli wasn’t ready to decide who his starter will be Friday night when the Gremlins host Northwest.
“Rock behind center does a good job. He really does,” Zerilli said. “It helps ... motivate the kids. The kids play well under him. He does a good job.
“That puts Nicolai out. He gets to run the ball. Nicolai plays decent quarterback but he’s a great running back. So we’re right there at the crossroads.”
Eddie Stevenson ran for 290 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to lead the Versailles Tigers past Southern Boone 28-14.
Versailles broke open a tie game on Stevenson’s 71-yard TD run in the second quarter and pushed its lead to 22-6 by halftime when Maurice Moyer connected with Steven Vineyard on a 23-yard pass play for a touchdown. Moyer and Stevenson each converted a two-point conversion.
Southern Boone sliced its deficit to 22-14 with an early fourth-quarter touchdown, but Stevenson capped the win with a 45-yard TD run.
