Prep boys basketball: O'Hara 71, Smith-Cotton 55

O’Hara avenged its loss to Smith-Cotton earlier this season, beating the Tigers 71-55 on Wednesday on its home court in a West Central Conference game.

Indaqaui Presberry led Smith-Cotton (7-11, 1-4) with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Donovan Schnicker added 13 points, with nine coming in the final frame.

Presberry had a team-best seven rebounds and Schnicker led the Tigers with five assists.

The Celtics jumped out to a 23-14 lead after one quarter, led 42-27 after two and led 55-33 after three.

“We didn’t do a good job of defending,” Tigers coach Kevin Schnicker said. “We were down 15 at the half, and played them close in the second half, but got too far behind.

“We got into their game rather than playing our game. We held them to 54 at our place, but tonight they had 42 at halftime. And they shot well.”

With eight points, Connor Moriarty was held to single-digits for only the third time this season.

Kyle Baker paced the Celtics with 21 points.

The Tigers are 2-8 in their last 10 games.
