Girls prep soccer: Sacred Heart sweeps doubleheader in own tournament
The Gremlins matched their season win total in one night, sweeping Friday’s Sacred Heart Tournament doubleheader at Clover Dell Park to improve to 4-11 on the season.
Sacred Heart beat Christian High School in the sudden death round of penalty kicks and later defeated School of the Osage 3-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Erika Beykirch’s first goal of the season led the Gremlins into overtime with Christian. Deadlocked after two extra frames, the teams went into penalty kicks. The first round resulted in a 4-4 tie, but in sudden death, Tiffany Greene made the clutch save and Kaitlyn Sunnarborg followed with the game-winning goal.
In the nightcap, Gabbi Ebers scored her second goal of the game in double overtime to lift the Gremlins to a 3-2 win over School of the Osage.
The Gremlins were tied at 1 at halftime after an Ebers goal, but trailed 2-1 late in the game. Beykirch, though, scored with less than 30 seconds to play to send the game into extras.
