Mustangs spoil Outlaws’ comeback
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Mid-Missouri Outlaws’ perfect season ended Saturday in Liberty.
But the Outlaws didn’t go down without a fight in the Central Plains Football League game.
The Outlaws overcame a 20-0 halftime deficit to force overtime in a 42-40 loss to the Missouri Mustangs.
Mid-Missouri turned to the running game in the second half, slicing its deficit to 26-20 by the start of the fourth quarter where the Outlaws held a 14-8 scoring advantage.
Running backs Tony Arbisi and Jimmy Gronemyer scored three and two touchdowns, respectively. Ben Lyles caught one touchdown pass.
The Mustangs scored first in overtime and made the two-point conversion.
Mid-Missouri answered with a touchdown, but Arbisi came up a couple of inches short on the two-point try, according to co-coach Travis Jobe.
The loss created a three-way tie for first place in the league. The Outlaws, the Mustangs and the Independence Bulldogs are all 6-1.
Mid-Missouri will host the Blue Springs Extreme for the second time this season at 3 p.m. Sunday at State Fair Community College.
