S-C goes 1-1 in Parkway Showcase

The Smith-Cotton girls soccer team split a pair of games this weekend at the Parkway West College Showcase in Fenton.

The Lady Tigers beat Parkway North 2-0 Friday and lost 5-1 to Marquette Catholic on Saturday.

S-C (5-2) broke a scoreless halftime tie against Parkway North with an own goal and one by Tiffany Wehmeyer. Goalkeeper Cristian Sharp earned the shutout.

The Lady Tigers fell behind 2-0 to Marquette at halftime and 4-0 before Jessica Greer scored.

“We had twice as many shots (as Marquette). They just finished better than we did,” S-C coach Shawn Cairer said. “I think they had eight shots and made five of them. ... It’s frustrating.”
