Sacred Heart School graduate Alex Cline won the men’s 40-and-under championship of the Sedalia Tennis Tournament on Saturday at Liberty Park.

Cline beat Nathan Beard 6-2 in the championship match. Beard fought through the losers bracket to reach the title match, beating Jason Parrott  to advance. Fifteen players competed in the bracket.

Elizabeth Beard won the women’s open division, taking the title by forfeit over Aimee Binder.

Binder won the losers bracket, defeating Liza Skrzypczak. Ten women signed  up for the event.

Lee Aldrich beat Jim Van Horn 10-1, 8-1 to win the men’s over-40 championship. They were the only two entries in the division.

Tournament organizer Steve Schilb  said that several players forfeited during the afternoon because of the triple-digit heat.
