Roadrunners sweep games in St. Louis

The State Fair Community College men’s basketball team ended the fall semester on a bit of a roll.

The Roadrunners beat Forest Park 86-66 Saturday night in St. Louis for their fourth win in six games.

Sophomores Clifton Fleming and Justyn Watkins paced SFCC with 17 points each.

Brandon Scaife posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Matt Webb added 10 points, as State Fair finished the semester with a 10-5 record.

State Fair led 41-39 at halftime.

State Fair 68, Moraine Valley 56

State Fair Community College opened the Forest Park men’s basketball tournament on Friday night with a win over Moraine Valley of suburban Chicago.

Brandon Scaife and Justyn Watkins led SFCC with 14 points and six rebounds each.

Dominic Williams scored 11 points, and Clifton Fleming had 10.

The Roadrunners led 34-24 at halftime.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
State Fair 75, Central Methodist JV 53

State Fair Community College ran out to a 10-0 lead Saturday and was never seriously challenged by the Central Methodist University junior varsity.

The Lady Roadrunners beat CMU 75-53 in a women’s college basketball game in Fayette.

SFCC used pressure defense to maintain a double-digit lead through the rest of the way.

“We had a lot of fast-break opportunities,” SFCC coach Darren Pannier said. “We were in the passing lanes and then did a good job of distributing the ball.”

Brittany Young (6) and Maci Wisdom combined for 11 assists.

Young and Tatianna Washington paced the Lady Roadrunners with 17 points each. Young added a team-high five steals.

Jaleisha Barrett had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Dahlia Booker led the SFCC with 19 rebounds, and she had three steals.

SFCC, which led 42-26 at halftime, will conclude its fall semester schedule Dec. 21 at Meramec community college in St. Louis.

Emporia St. 72, Central Missouri 66

Emporia State took advantage of more opportunities at the free-throw line Saturday night to win the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women’s basketball game in Emporia, Kan.

The ninth-ranked Hornets (7-1, 2-1 MIAA) outscored the University of Central Missouri 15-4 from the free-throw line while outshooting it 17-6.

Cassondra Boston went 7 for 7 from the foul stripe and finished with 16 points. Alli Volkens scored a game-high 20 points for Emporia State.

Ana Migueres shot better than 50 percent from the floor to lead the Jennies (5-3, 2-1) with 15 points. She went 8 of 15 including 1 for 1 from the 3-point arc.

Danielle Shows added 11 points, and Deidra Dace scored 10 for UCM.
