ROUNDUP: S-C’s Azan medals in ’Burg

Smith-Cotton placed eighth out of 14 teams Tuesday in the Warrensburg girls golf tournament.

The Lady Tigers shot a 419 in their first competitive rounds of the season.

Rock Bridge and Lee’s Summit North tied for the team championship with a 368.

Morgan  Lamberson, of Marshall, and Chris McCall, of Lee’s Summit North, shared medalist honors with a score of 10-over 82 at Hidden Pines Country Club.

Smith-Cotton’s Amanda Azan finished seventh individually with an 87.

Lauren Azan’s 94, Megan Webb’s  119 and Laura Hancock’s 119 rounded out the Lady Tigers’ team score.

Sacred Heart shot a 509 with JayLynne Labus carding a team-best 106.

GIRLS TENNIS

Knob Noster 9, Smith-Cotton 0

The Knob Noster Panthers bounced back from a 9-0 loss to Marshall on Monday with a shutout of Smith-Cotton on Tuesday at Knob Noster.

In singles, Ericka Kjos beat Chelsey Muths 7-0, Ashley Kjos beat Sarah Rae 9-7, Caitlin McKinney beat Rebecca Wooldridge 8-6, Brook Wagner beat Susan Bell 8-4, Markeisha Fewell beat Kyra Kendrick 8-0 and Charlee Byers beat Faith Grinstead 8-6.

In doubles, Kjos-Kjos beat Muths-Rae 7-2, McKinney-Wagner beat Wooldridge-Bell 8-5 and Fewell-Byers beat Kendrick-Grinstead 8-2.
Marshall 9, Knob Noster 0

The Marshall girls tennis team dominated the Knob Noster Panthers on Monday.

The Owls won 9-0, taking 72 of the 85 games played.

Ericka Kjos and Ashley Kjos took Virginia Hutcherson and Kara Ward to a 14th game before losing 8-6 in the closest match of the day.

In the other doubles matches, Kim Van and Olivia Butler beat Caitlin McKinney and Brook Wagner 8-1, and Amy Van and Skylar Simpson beat Markeisha Fewell and Charlee Byers 8-1.

In singles, Hutcherson beat Ericka Kjos 8-1, Ward beat Ashley Kjos 8-0, Kim Van beat McKinney 8-3, Butler beat Wagner 8-0, Amy Van beat Fewell  8-1 and Simpson beat Byers 8-0.

SOFTBALL

Hallsville 8, Pilot Grove 0

Jamie Wheeler pitched a seven-inning two-hitter Monday night, leading the Hallsville softball team past the Pilot Grove Tigers.

Wheeler struck out 13 and walked one.

Whitney Wessing took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Jessica Shadwick and Wessing had one hit apiece for the Tigers.
