State Fair knocks off No. 6 North Arkansas

State Fair Community College women’s basketball coach Darren Pannier called his team’s defense “stellar” Monday night.
The Lady Roadrunners made 15 steals and held North Arkansas All-American JoBeth Williams 14 points below her season average in a 96-59 victory over the Lady Pioneers.
North Arkansas entered the game as the No. 6 team in Division II, and Williams was averaging 29 points a game.
Pannier said that North Arkansas must have committed more than 25 turnovers.
Arriana Walker played big for the Lady Roadrunners. She had 10 points, six rebounds and a team-high nine steals in addition to what Pannier believes could be a school-record 16 assists.
Brittany Young led a balanced SFCC attack with 18 points. She was one of five players to score in double figures.
Ciara Leak had 11 points and eight assists. Jaleisha Barrett scored 11 points and had a team-high nine rebounds.
Maci Wisdom had 11 points and six assists. Hattie Harris and Dahlia Booker helped out inside with seven and six rebounds, respectively.
Williams finished with 15 points for North Arkansas, which lost its second straight game after starting the season 8-0.
State Fair, No. 23 in the Division I poll, led 48-25 at halftime.
The Lady Roadrunners (8-1) will face Rend Lake at 2 p.m. Friday in the Moberly Area Community College Classic and Technical Career Institutes at 2 p.m. Saturday.

North Arkansas 69, State Fair 65
State Fair Community College trailed for most the game Monday night in Harrison, Ark.
The Pioneers never could put State Fair away, but the Roadrunners couldn’t make enough plays to overtake the home team.
Dominique Newton scored a team-high 19 points for State Fair, and Timothy Kiewel had 12.
North Arkansas led 33-30 at halftime.
The Roadrunners (6-2) will face Southeastern Illinois at 4 p.m. Friday in the Moberly Area Classic and Technical Career Institutes at 4 p.m. Saturday.
