S-C opens season as ranked team

The Smith-Cotton Tigers will begin the season state-ranked.

The Tigers were voted the No. 9 team in Class 4, according to a poll of sportswriters from across the state.

Two other local teams received state rankings in Class 1. Tipton is No. 3 and Concordia No. 10.

KANSAS CITY — The Associated Press preseason high school football poll for Missouri, voted upon by a 10-person panel of sportswriters across the state. First-place votes in parentheses, followed by 2007 record, points and last year’s final ranking.
