Warsaw takes third at Rock Bridge
Wildcats hold Harrisonville 9-6
The Warsaw Wildcats placed third Saturday in the Rock Bridge Rumble softball tournament in Columbia.
The Wildcats beat Harrisonville 9-6 in the third-place game after losing 6-1 to Rock Bridge in the semifinals.
Warsaw went 2-1 in its opening three games, beating Springfield Glendale 17-0 and Hannibal
10-0. Liberty beat the Wildcats 8-0 in their first tournament game.
The Wildcats scored five second-inning runs in the third-place game to take control.
Caitlyn Cooner tripled with one out. Kristina Strader followed with a run-scoring double.
Shawnah Kee drew a walk, and Danielle Stackhouse singled to drive in Cooner. Kee scored on an error by the pitcher, who made a bad throw to first after fielding a ground ball hit by Mackensie Wallace.
Stackhouse scored on Kelli Wenberg’s fielder’s choice, and Wallace scored on Aubry Grenoble’s groundout to shortstop.
The Wildcats scored another run in the third, but Harrisonville posted three in the fifth to cut their lead in half.
Warsaw scored one run in the fifth and two in the sixth before holding Harrisonville off in the seventh.
Wenberg was the winning pitcher, and Stephanie Smith was charged with the loss.
