SFCC women remain perfect

Lady Roadrunners beat Southwestern Illinois 73-56

State Fair Community College pulled away in the second half Saturday to beat Southwestern Illinois 73-56 in Kaskaskia, Ill.

The Lady Roadrunners led 30-26 at halftime of the women’s basketball game.

“Our pressure defense extended the lead for us in the second half,” State Fair coach Darren Pannier said.
Southwestern Illinois committed 31 turnovers.

Brittany Young paced State Fair with 19 points.

Dahlia Booker and Arriana Walker drew praise from their coach for their performances.

Walker had 11 points and team highs of six assists and six steals.

Booker had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Ciara Leak had eight points and five rebounds, and Hattie Harris contributed six points.

While the Lady Roadrunners improved to 4-0, their performance Saturday was far from perfect.

State Fair continued to struggle from the free-throw line, making only nine of 22 attempts.

The team entered the game with a 46.4 free-throw percentage.

The Lady Roadrunners committed 18 turnovers. They averaged 14 in their first three games.

The State Fair men’s and women’s basketball teams will face North Central on Tuesday in Trenton.

The women’s game will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
