I guess I’m not an awful State Fair Idol judge because they keep inviting me back but after watching the talent portion of the Missouri State Fair Queen competition I can’t help but think that I wouldn’t be a very good judge for that particular competition. On my form contestants that attempted to give a speech in lieu of showing me a real talent would get zero talent points. Roll a basketball on your shoulders, or hog tie someone or line dance — show me something, anything! I’d be willing to bet that all these potential queens can line dance up a storm. What do you know, this contestant will be giving a speech. And the title probably begins with the phrase “The Importance of ...”

I do appreciate the maps, both handheld and poster-sized that the good fair organizers put around the grounds because I am occasionlly directionally challenged, but it seems to me that in the modern age what we really need is a Wi-Fi map. After all, how could any reasonable person enjoy all the fine entertainment at the fair without telling various people on various social media sites about it constantly?
