This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Nov. 21

1:49 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to an accident on West 32nd Street near South Park Avenue. Contact was made with the driver and a strong smell of intoxicants was detected. Through the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver provided a breath sample which showed his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. William DeLee, 40, of the 1300 block of East Boonville Avenue, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

2:58 a.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Sixth Street and South Massachusetts Avenue on a vehicle without registration. As the stop was initiated, a male fled from the backseat on foot. Contact was made with the occupants of the vehicle. A K9 conducted a sniff of the vehicle and indicated the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed both occupants were in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Tracy M. Bartel, 35, of Cole Camp, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. William A. Savage, 39, of the 100 block of South Washington Avenue, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Nov. 22

12:16 a.m.: A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle having issues driving straight down the road on East Third Street at South Lamine Avenue. The officer noticed the odor of intoxicants on the driver’s breath. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Paul W. Buson, 80, of the 1500 block of Honeysuckle Road, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Nov. 23

12:57 a.m.: An officer observed a vehicle disobey a stop sign. A traffic stop was initiated at West 16th Street and South Osage Avenue where it was found the driver had no valid license. Brandon L. Blaylock, 39, of Warsaw, was arrested for operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Incidents

Nov. 20

10:23 a.m.: An officer responded to the Pettis County Health Center in reference to harassment. Management advised the night before someone had posted two derogatory signs on the building, expressing frustration over the mask mandate. The center then received a threatening email. It was unknown if the two were related. Security video was obtained.

Nov. 22

10:02 a.m.: An officer responded to the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard in reference to a theft. Management advised a female subject had run out of the store without paying for two bags of Hostess donuts.

7:54 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of South Barrett Avenue in reference to a burglary. The officer saw several males in the backyard of a nearby residence and identified them before going to the residence. The officer found damage to the residence and a subject was inside, passed out. The subject was identified and removed from the residence. The property owner estimated the damage at $10,000. The suspects were identified by witnesses and released to their parents. Juvenile referrals were made to the Pettis County Juvenile Office.

Arrests

Nov. 20

3:03 p.m.: Deputies were dispatched to the area of Boonville Road near Randall Road for a report of a physical disturbance. Deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle in the area of Emmett Avenue and East Harvey Street. The vehicle attempted to evade deputies by fleeing at high rates of speed while cutting through alleys, side streets and yards. The vehicle nearly struck a child on a bicycle in the Washington Elementary school zone. Deputies located the vehicle abandoned and saw the driver running. After a brief foot chase, Zachary Denny, of Sedalia, was arrested for two warrants with formal charges being requested for resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child and driving with a revoked license.

2 a.m.: An complainant reported their black 2016 side by side Kawasaki was stolen.

Nov. 21

12:29 a.m.: Stanley R. Lucas, 70, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Nov. 23

1:46 a.m.: Marie J. Jennings, 24, of Chilhowee, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in a crash.
