One-year-old drowns in Pettis pond

A one-year-old drowned in a private pond at 11:58 a.m. Thursday in Pettis County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the 1-year-old left a residence in the 32700 block of Tatum Loop in Pettis County and was located in a private pond. Life-saving measures were performed but the subject was pronounced deceased on scene by Pettis County Coroner Robert “Skip” Smith.

According to MSHP Public Information Officer Sergeant Andy Bell, “preliminary information indicates this was an accident.”

Two injured in Johnson crash

A woman and a juvenile were injured in a crash at 4 p.m. Thursday in Johnson County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Rebekah L. Heater, 22, of Clinton, was driving north on state Route 13 at Country Road Southeast 135 when another southbound vehicle driven by Yvonne M. Hursh, 91, of Chilhowee, turned into her path.

Two of Heater’s passengers, a 2-year-old and Diane E. Khan, 23, of Leeton, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton.

One injured in Saline crash

A woman was moderately injured in a crash at 4 p.m. Thursday in Saline County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Leslie A. Cortex, 38, of Slater, was driving westbound on state Route 240, after 290th Road, when she attempted to turn into a residence. Another westbound vehicle driven by Jenna Y. Hill, 18, of Slater, was not able to stop in time and struck Cortex’s vehicle.

Cortes suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
