This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Nov. 6

6:20 p.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 800 block of South Limit Avenue for a reported stolen vehicle. The complainant was contacted and officers determined the vehicle had been stolen. Officers were able to track the vehicle and suspect to the Sedalia Regional Airport where the suspect was apprehended and the vehicle was recovered. The owner of the vehicle reported there was substantial damage to the vehicle during the theft. Christopher R. Bennett, 28, of Sedalia, was arrested for stealing a motor vehicle and first-degree property damage.

Nov. 7

9:08 p.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 1600 block of South Limit Avenue for a license violation. Contraband was observed in plain view leading to a search of the vehicle. The passenger was found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and syringes. Michaelle J. Kopp, 31, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

11:58 p.m.: A traffic stop was conducted on West Broadway Boulevard at Industrial Road for a vehicle having issues maintaining its lane. The officer detected the odor of intoxicants on the driver’s breath and through an investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Travis Sherland, 25, of Lincoln, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Nov. 8

5:32 a.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Emmet Avenue for a license violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a revoked license. Caleb P. Bartlett, 24, of the 1800 block of South Grand Avenue, was arrested for driving with a revoked license.

7:17 a.m.: An officer responded to the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard regarding a subject check. The subject was found to have drugs in his possession. Kenneth E. Smith, 72, of the 200 block of North Mill Street, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

6:49 p.m.: An officer responded to the 900 block of Westwood Avenue for a report of a disturbance. The complainant stated they were harassed over Facebook by the suspect and provided documentation and a witness of the harassment. The messages from the suspect indicated the suspect intended to physically harm the complainant. Donald C. Gibbs, 42, of the 1200 block of West 11th Street, was arrested for harassment to frighten or disturb another person.

10:50 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Buckner Court for a trespassing report. The complainant stated a known subject entered their apartment without their permission while they were inside and made sexual comments to their children. Antonio M. Hurst Sr., 36, of Windsor, was arrested for first-degree burglary and harassment to frighten or disturb another person.

Incidents

Nov. 3

2:55 p.m.: An officer attempted to make a vehicle stop near the intersection of West 10th Street and South Winchester Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop and drove from the scene, resulting in a short pursuit. The pursuit was terminated. The suspect was known and had felony warrants before the pursuit. Charges were being submitted to the prosecutor.

Nov. 8

12:49 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of East 13th Street in reference to a theft report. The complainant stated the previous tenants of one of their rental properties took a fridge, stove and heating units when they left.

3:56 p.m.: An officer met with a subject in the police department lobby in reference to possible child sex abuse. The subject had information regarding potential sexual abuse of children related to a subject who lived in Sedalia at one time. The investigation was ongoing at the time of the report.

Arrests

Nov. 6

6:08 p.m.: Deputies arrested Christopher R. Bennett around the 1900 block of East Boonville Street for resisting arrest.

11:28 p.m.: Deputies received information regarding a subject with two active felony warrants identified as Wayne J.R. Lilley, of Windsor. Deputies made contact with Lilley in the area of the 4500 block of South Limit Avenue. As deputies were making contact Lilley placed his vehicle in drive and took off heading east on Elm Hills Boulevard. Deputies pursued him and Lilley attempted to make a turn but went off the roadway causing his vehicle to strike a telephone pole. Lilley was arrested, but transported to Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg for treatment for his injuries.

Nov. 7

6:45 a.m.: Deputies took a report of a stolen Big Boy Zero turn lawn mower out of the 27700 block of Southwood Circle.

Nov. 8

7:57 p.m.: An individual reported their 2006 Ford F-250 had been stolen while parked in the 3200 block of state Route E.

Arrests

Nov. 6

11 a.m.: Ashley D. Winfield, 29, of Florissant, was arrested in Saline County for felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

11 a.m.: Juan A. Garth, 29, of South Carolina, was arrested in Saline County for felony possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, driving with a revoked license and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nov. 7

1:56 a.m.: Tyler P. Kipping, 30, of Jefferson City, was arrested in Moniteau County for driving while intoxicated, speeding and no insurance

6:15 p.m.: Kirk J. Spinner, 38, of Jefferson City, was arrested in Moniteau County for driving while intoxicated and speeding.

8 p.m.: Timothy W. Cornine, 61, of Marshall, was arrested in Saline County for driving while intoxicated.

Nov. 8

12:17 a.m.: Miller D. Via, 18, of Blue Springs, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a stop sign violation.

11:50 p.m.: Jade M. Johnson, 37, of Kansas City, was arrested in Johnson County for driving while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia.
