Crash mars fair charity race

Five people were injured after a vehicle left the race track during the third annual Battle of the Badges charity auto race at the Pepsi Grandstands Sunday night.

According to Sgt. Collin Stosberg, public information officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A, shortly after 9 p.m. a car came around a curve, drove through a fence and into the pit. Three people, a 57-year-old man from Columbia, a 33-year-old woman from California, Mo., and a 27-year-old woman from California, Mo., were Lifeflighted to area hospitals with serious injuries. Two others, a 67-year-old man and a 46-year-old man, both from Columbia, were treated and released at the scene.
