Suspect sought in Excel Bank robbery
Sedalia police are looking for a man who robbed Excel Bank Monday.
The same man could be wanted in another robbery that happened March 13 at Commerce Bank in Moberly.
“It appears, I would say from watching the tape ... this is not his first robbery,” said Cmdr. Larry Ward.
A 6-foot-tall, 300-pound white man went into the bank on South Limit Avenue about 9 a.m. and approached two of the three tellers inside. The robber showed the tellers a semi-automatic pistol and “directed them to put money in a bag,” Ward said.
No one was injured in the incident.
The man is described as being in his late 40s to early 50s with a scruffy beard, or two to three days’ of growth. He was wearing a blue or black baseball cap with no logo, a light-colored denim shirt and blue jeans.
The robber drove away in a white 1997 to 2000 model Dodge Caravan or Plymouth Voyager. Police believe the robber was working alone. He was captured on surveillance video.
Ward declined to say how much money was stolen in the robbery. Officers have had very little leads to investigate.
“We’re working some of our own, but we don’t have anything set in concrete yet,” Ward said. “We have a couple pending.”
Bank robberies can be a state or federal offense.
“We are receiving assistance at this time from the FBI,” Ward said.
