SpoFest will celebrate two years of spoken-word events with an outdoor birthday event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. June 2 at the Montserrat Vineyards in Montserrat.

Sedalia Visual Art Association is inviting the public to go along on a day trip to The Strawberry Hill Museum and Culture Center in the old Croatian neighborhood of downtown Kansas City, Kan., on June 1.

June art classes organized by Mid-Missouri Artists and offered through Warrensburg Parks and Recreation include classes for both youths and adults. Classes meet in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Warrensburg Community Center, 445 E. Gay St.

The poem “Little Boo Boo Walks” by Faith Bemiss, of Sedalia, has been published in a academic textbook “Methamphetamine: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Solving the Problem,” published by Methodist University School of Public Affairs, of Fayetteville, N.C.

Faith Bemiss, a Sedalia fine art photographer and writer, has been selected to have a photo shown at the 1650 Gallery and Studio in Los Angeles in the “Flower Power 2012” juried exhibition.

SpoFest will present a “Doomsday” poetry reading event, with former Missouri Poet Laureate Walter Bargen as the featured reader, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the Liberty Center, 111 W. Fifth St. in Sedalia.

When Das Edelweiss Restaurant opened in Warsaw in1994, its owners, Marianne Lee and her daughter, Peggy Scroggins, worked themselves to exhaustion, and when the popular eating place closed in 1997 customers lined the sidewalk to say goodbye.
