The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591 Ladies Auxiliary plan to bring a little Irish spirit to Sedalia on Saturday, hosting a variety of events in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day festivities will take place on March 15 in downtown Sedalia. Events will include an Irish stew lunch and cake walk at 11 a.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2591, 121 S. Ohio Ave.; a bagpipe luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, at Fourth Street and Osage Avenue, $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger; and a St. Patrick’s Day parade at 2 p.m.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2591 is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day early this year with a parade, cake walk, auction and other activities for the Sedalia community.

The school-age children of Sedalia like to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by pinching each other. They viciously seek out the poor soul who forgot to wear any obviously green clothing and pinch them at every opportunity. Extremely light and extremely dark shades of green just weren’t good enough; and the green needed to be plentiful. Some claim that they are wearing green underwear, but even if it’s true it only stops some of the pinching. Some children wait anxiously all year for the day in which they will have what they see as a legitimate excuse to inflict pain upon their classmates.
