Silver birthday

Posted

Ray Silver, of Lamoni, Iowa, formerly of Sedalia, will celebrate his 90th birthday with a card shower.

Ray was born May 1, 1928, in Lamoni, Iowa. After high school, he spent four years in the U.S. Navy serving in Hawaii and Japan. When he returned, he moved to Tipton, Iowa, where he married and at 36 became a father to his wife’s children from her first marriage, Robert, John, Christine, George and Janis Zraick, as well as their son, Bruce Silver.

Ray worked as a printer, managing the “job shop” at the county paper, the “Tipton Conservative,” for most of his career. After retiring, he reunited with his high school sweetheart who went on to become his second wife, Almata. They retired to “Harmony Hill” just outside of Sedalia in the late ’80s.

Ray enjoyed golfing and when not golfing, the couple spent their time tending 17-plus flower and vegetable gardens. By night, they enjoyed the evening sunset, listening to music, good food and the company of friends and neighbors. In recent years, they downsized, moving to their hometown, Lamoni, where Ray and Almata reside in their home they call “Silver Sanctuary,” a place that is rarely without visitors and always filled with a welcoming smile.

Birthday cards may be sent to Ray Silver at 311 S. Ferguson St., Lamoni, Iowa, 50140 , Attention: 90th birthday or send an email to basilver@gmail.com.
