Extreme cold leads to water main breaks, equipment failures

Sub-zero temperatures caused multiple water mains to rupture in Sedalia this weekend, leaving some customers without water as crews struggled through hazardous and challenging conditions.

American Inn owner arrested for operating illegally after closure
Monday afternoon, Jan. 8, the Sedalia Police Department served a criminal search warrant at American Inn, 1217 S. Limit Ave. Detectives located illegal activity and four rooms being illegally leased, including one occupied by an unregistered sex offender. more

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, with schools closed due to the overnight snowfall, Addie Kehoe, 8, got up early to make a snowman with her grandfather, Dave Kehoe, on Dal Whi Mo Court. The pair had completed the snowman by 9 a.m. Additional snowfall is expected on Friday, Jan. 12, with temperatures plummeting to single digits. Friday, Dec. 29 was the last day of 2023 to pay tax bills in person at the Pettis County Collector's Office at the Pettis County Courthouse. A small line to avoid penalties formed on the second floor Friday morning as people concluded their yearly of funding the county. 2023 tax bills are due by Sunday, Dec. 31, and payments must be postmarked in 2023 or placed in the dropbox on the courthouse lawn or paid online by the deadline.
