This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

April 20

2:55 p.m.: Christopher M. Brown, 33, of the 1000 block of South Massachusetts Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer was in the 500 block of East 10th Street for a vehicle check. He located the vehicle at a residence and saw another vehicle pull up behind the car. After further investigation, the officer determined Brown had been operating the vehicle with a revoked license.

8:55 p.m.: Perry Edwin Bales, 49, of the 1800 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of violation of an ex-parte order of protection. An officer responded to a residence on a report of a subject violating an ex-parte protection order. He spoke with the suspect, Bales, and a computer check revealed he was the respondent in the protection order. The officer determined Bales was in violation of the protection order by being at the residence and arrested him.

9:25 p.m.: Matthew W. Apel, 30, of the 1100 block of South Osage Avenue, was arrested on a charge of fourth-degree domestic assault. Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Osage Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance. The complainant said Apel was pushing her around and slapped her. Apel was reportedly uncooperative at the scene and was arrested on a domestic assault charge. Bothwell Regional Health Center cleared him to be fit for confinement, and officers took him to the Pettis County Jail.

April 21

1:25 a.m.: Jason R. Shields, 27, of Hughesville, was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a concealable weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. An officer stopped an unregistered vehicle near East Broadway Boulevard and South Thompson Avenue. Following investigation at the scene, the officer arrested the driver, Shields, on multiple charges.

Incidents

April 20

7 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 2500 block of South Grand Avenue in reference to a theft from a vehicle. An officer arrived and spoke with the complainant. She said someone entered her vehicle overnight. The suspects shattered the front passenger-side window and took $400 out of her wallet, which was in her purse. After taking the money, the suspects left the wallet and purse in the vehicle.

2:40 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 900 block of West 10th Street for a burglary call. The victim said someone entered her residence through a rear upstairs window and took several items. She also said the suspect damaged some roof shingles and the window while gaining entry. While entering a separate garage, the suspect damaged another window. The victim said it appears nothing was missing from the garage at the time of the call. The items stolen from the residence had a value of about $300, and the damage to the residence totaled to about $200.

9:30 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue in reference to a burglary report. The victim said someone entered the residence and stole about $10,570 worth of electronics, including two TVs, an Xbox console, several video games and controllers, and a radio system. The theft occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. There were no signs of forced entry.

April 21

10:45 a.m.: A complainant came to the police station to report a domestic assault that occurred about nine to 17 hours earlier. The assault occurred at her residence. The complainant had bruising on her arms, forehead and the right side of her right eye. She said she wished to press charges and signed a statement.

Arrests

April 20

9 p.m.: Burl A. Brown, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to deliver. Deputies arrested Brown after a traffic stop in the area of U.S. Route 50 and South Engineer Avenue.

9 p.m.: Niko Iron Hammonds, of Clinton, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies arrested Hammonds after stopping his vehicle for a traffic violation at U.S. Route 65 and Bothwell Park Road.

April 21

4:20 p.m.: George Alexander Ricketts Jr., of Grandview, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Deputies also served a warrant for Ricketts’ arrest from the Wentzville Police Department.

Arrests

April 20

6:50 a.m.: Dylan P. Brockmeyer, 19, of Wellington, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash, and not having insurance.

April 21

5:20 p.m.: Michael J. Brennan, 39, of Clinton, was arrested in Henry County on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Troopers also served a felony Henry County warrant, a Benton County warrant and a felony warrant from Johnson County, Kansas.

7:40 p.m.: Earnest J. Stewart, 28, of Grandview, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of leaving the scene of a crash, resisting arrest, and careless and imprudent driving. Troopers also served five misdemeanor warrants from the Independence Police Department.
