This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Aug. 27

8:40 p.m.: John Michael Bea, 31, of Troy, was arrested on a felony charge of stealing. An officer was dispatched to a store in the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue for a report of stealing. The complainant said Bea drank two bottles of juice and ate some grapes while walking around the store. The complainant said Bea was unable to pay for the items he had opened and consumed. The officer took Bea into custody.

Incidents

Aug. 24

9:10 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Moniteau Avenue for a reported disturbance with weapons. The victim said several people jumped him. He had an injury to the back of his head, but he refused medical treatment. The victim claimed he didn’t know any of the suspects or what the fight was about.

Aug. 25

8:20 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of West Second Street for a theft report. The caller said someone entered the residence unlawfully and took a cellphone. The suspect then sold the cellphone to someone for $50. The officer wasn’t able to locate the suspect or the third party at the time of the call. He forwarded charges of burglary, stealing and receiving stolen property to detectives.

11:45 a.m.: A subject came to the police station to report her vehicle stolen. The victim said she left the vehicle about 1:30 a.m. in an alley near a friend’s house in the 1200 block of South Moniteau Avenue. She said she drove back to pick up her vehicle in the morning, and it was gone. The victim was willing to assist with prosecution. Officers have recovered the vehicle in the 900 block of South Vermont Avenue.

1:15 p.m.: A business in the 300 block of West Broadway Boulevard reported a juvenile subject attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill in exchange for five $20 bills. The complainant said the juvenile left the store without incident when she told him the bill was fake and she couldn’t give him change. The complainant said the subject comes into the store daily and should be easy to identify.

6 p.m.: A complainant came to the police station to report her cellphone had been stolen. The reporting person said she knows the person who took her phone. She valued the phone at $800.

Aug. 26

1:05 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 1800 block of South Carr Avenue in reference to a hit-and-run accident. After investigating the incident, the suspect vehicle was reported stolen and recovered nearby. The incident is still under investigation.

2:55 p.m.: A complainant reported someone had assaulted her. The incident occurred the evening of Aug. 20 in the 400 block of Wilkerson Street. The victim was unable to come to Sedalia, so an officer took the report over the phone.

3:05 p.m.: A subject came to the police station to report debit card fraud. She said a subject she knows used her debit card information to pay someone through Facebook. The reporting officer has identified the subjects involved, and the victim is willing to assist with prosecution.

7:35 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business in the 700 block of West 16th Street for a report of a hit-and-run accident with no injuries. Witnesses at the scene were able to identify the vehicle and driver that had fled. Officers located and interviewed the suspect, and they will submit a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Aug. 27

11:40 a.m.: An officer took a report in the police station lobby of a series of thefts at a business in the 1400 block of South Limit Avenue. The business reported the suspect stole a total of $1,003.03 between May 1 and Aug. 27.

Incidents

Aug. 27

4:50 a.m.: A deputy responded to a residence in Green Ridge in reference to a reported structure fire. He later learned the residence, a vacant property, was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Arrests

Aug. 26

12:20 a.m.: Douglas W. Hampton, 40, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

12:35 a.m.: Max L. Deal, 65, of Kansas City, was arrested in Henry County on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

3:50 p.m.: Debra K. Phelps, 47, of Harrisonville, was arrested in Henry County on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

9:05 p.m.: Chris E. Toalson, 59, of Sedalia, was arrested in Pettis County on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated.
