This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Feb. 14

3:10 a.m.: Evan Matthew Potts, 19, of the 3100 block of South New York Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Officers stopped a vehicle near South Limit Avenue and West 11th Street and determined the driver, Potts, was intoxicated.

Feb. 16

4:40 p.m.: Nathan Wayne Dotson, 31, of Mora, was arrested on a felony charge of resisting arrest. An officer initiated a subject check on a group of people standing at the corner of East Fifth Street and South Marvin Avenue. While he attempted to go up to them, two people ran from the group. A foot pursuit ensued, and the officer took one of them, Dotson, into custody. He was arrested for warrants from Pettis and Randolph counties, a parole violation warrant and a felony charge of resisting arrest.

8:20 p.m.: Matthew C. Maggard, 38, of the 700 block of South Ohio Avenue, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license. An officer saw a vehicle without headlights on traveling west on West Broadway Boulevard. He stopped the vehicle at West Broadway Boulevard and Sunset Drive. Dispatch advised the driver’s license was revoked.

Feb. 17

2:20 a.m.: Jessie J. Cornwell, 26, of the 1900 block of South Park Avenue, was arrested on charges of felony unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of South Park Avenue for a civil standby. Dispatch explained the caller said his wife had locked him out of the residence and wouldn’t let him in. Shots rang out shortly after the officers arrived, so they placed the caller in the back of a patrol vehicle. SPD officers, Pettis County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers surrounded the residence and gave verbal commands, which the suspect, Cornwell, ignored. Dispatch attempted to contact Cornwell by phone and have her step outside. She came out of the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

6 p.m.: Kaleb T. Kelch, 25, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of stealing from a building. An officer was dispatched to a restaurant in the 700 block of East Broadway Boulevard. The caller said a suspect from a previous theft was inside the restaurant. The officer spoke with the suspect, Kelch, and conducted an investigation, later arresting the suspect on a stealing charge.

7:40 p.m.: Ira DeWayne DeMois, 61, of the 1800 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree assault. Mark Eugene Shull, 56, of the 1800 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested on charges of felony second-degree assault, misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. An officer responded to the 200 block of South Engineer Avenue for a report of an assault. He spoke with the complainant, who said two suspects punched him and held a knife to his throat. The complainant didn’t have any physical injuries. The officer then went to the 1800 block of East Sixth Street to speak with the suspects. After a short interview, he arrested DeMois and Shull.

8:45 p.m.: James Arthur Burnworth, 38, of the 2100 block of East Broadway Boulevard, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor resisting arrest and third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. Officers responded to the area of East Broadway Boulevard and South Garfield Avenue in reference to a subject who was reportedly attempting to jump into traffic on West Broadway Boulevard. The officers determined the subject, Burnworth, was intoxicated.

Incidents

Feb. 16

4:55 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of forgery. The complainant said a female subject came to the business on Feb. 14 and bought a soda and $20 worth of gas, and she paid with a counterfeit $100 bill. The officer collected the bill for evidence and is reviewing the store’s security camera footage.

9:10 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to Bothwell Regional Health Center in reference to a theft. The victim said he is an employee of a taxi cab service and came to the hospital emergency room to pick up a customer. He said he went inside the emergency room, came out a few minutes later and noticed items from his vehicle were on the ground. His company fuel card, a box knife and a 9mm Taurus PT 809C pistol were stolen.

Feb. 17

8:05 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of East Boonville Street for a reported disturbance. Four adults live in the house, and two adults and two children live in a motor home behind the house. Officers have been dispatched to the house several times for domestic disturbances. The officer found the living arrangement was not the best for the children and notified the child abuse hotline.

4:05 p.m.: A woman arrived at the police department and reported a sexual assault. There was one suspect at the time of the report.

7:55 p.m.: An officer took a report in the police station lobby of a domestic assault. The victim said she was at a wedding reception, and the suspect came to pick up their daughter. The victim said the suspect got upset after she refused to go with him. He reportedly grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth, held her down to the ground and forced her into his vehicle. The suspect said she refused to get into his vehicle at first but then agreed to get in. He said the victim had been drinking and slipped and fell on the ground.

8:10 p.m.: An officer responded to the 1500 block of East 15th Street for a report of harassment. The victim said a male subject came to his door and threatened him with a gun.

Feb. 18

5:05 a.m.: An officer responded to a business in the 3200 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of shoplifting. He spoke with a female suspect whom employees said was stealing. A manager said the store didn’t want to pursue charges and only wanted her to leave. When the woman was getting into her vehicle, the officer noticed illegal drug equipment in plain view. He learned the illegal items contained methamphetamine and belonged to another occupant of the vehicle. He is submitting a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Arrests

Feb. 16

11:25 a.m.: Caleb L. Frey, 21, of Pleasant Hill, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of felony resisting arrest, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, driving with a revoked license, failure to provide insurance and failure to register a vehicle. Troopers also served a Johnson County felony warrant.

11:45 a.m.: Carlos J. Collier, 32, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was arrested in Saline County on two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance.

5:25 p.m.: Joshua L. Mundy, 37, of St. Peters, was arrested in Saline County on charges of felony driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in a crash.

Feb. 17

1:50 p.m.: Dustin B. Allsup, 23, of St. James, was arrested in Moniteau County on charges of driving with a revoked license, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.

7:05 p.m.: Najee D. Clarkson, 20, of Kansas City, was arrested on charges of tampering with a motor vehicle, driving with a revoked license, not having a motorcycle license and failure to display a valid license plate.

Feb. 18

1 a.m.: Jonathan E. Collins, 21, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Johnson County on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to stop at a stop sign.

6 p.m.: Kimberly J. Bailey, 28, of Warrensburg, was arrested in Pettis County on a charge of driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving, and littering.
