This list is a sampling of crime in Sedalia and the surrounding area. Information is taken from official police reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved in each case.

Arrests

Feb. 19

1:45 p.m.: Pauline Billingsley, 67, of the 1000 block of East Seventh Street, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and not having proof of insurance. Officers responded to a business in the 100 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of a hit-and-run collision in the parking lot. A witness said she saw a red pickup truck back into a parked car, pull forward and back up a second time before leaving the parking lot. The owner of the struck car said he was inside the business at the time of the incident. He said it would cost about $700 to repair his bumper and was willing to assist with prosecution. Officers located Billingsley and her vehicle.

Feb. 21

8:30 a.m.: Joshua Jay Quick, 26, of Sedalia, received a municipal court summons for a charge of trespassing. An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of West Seventh Street for a report of a subject trespassing. The officer arrived and spoke with the subject, Quick, who was sleeping in the laundry room of the apartment complex. The owner of the residence was on scene and wished to pursue charges.

12:20 p.m.: Sandy Kay Gibson, 43, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of identity theft. An officer was dispatched to a business in the 3400 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a warrant check. Dispatch said a woman with a Saline County felony warrant was in a room at the business. The officer spoke with the suspect, Gibson, and ran her information through dispatch, which confirmed the warrant. Gibson had also tried to give a false name and birth date to officers. They are pursuing a charge of identity theft.

4:10 p.m.: Heaven M. McCue, 19, of the 400 block of East Third Street, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, felony tampering with physical evidence, felony resisting arrest and third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer. While investigating an unrelated incident in the 400 block of East Third Street, an officer heard a man and woman yelling nearby. He then heard the woman screaming. A neighbor came up to him, saying a man was beating the woman on the other side of the house. Officers assisted the woman, McCue, in getting her property out of the house. While inside, the officers noticed a white crystal substance on a mirror in plain view. As an officer seized the substance, McCue reportedly tried to blow it off of the mirror. She then assaulted the officer. McCue was arrested, and charges of domestic assault are being submitted against the male suspect who assaulted her.

Feb. 22

11:45 a.m.: Marcelino Tinoco-Orozco, 52, of Marshall, received a municipal court summons for a charge of urinating in public. An officer was dispatched to the 4400 block of Wisconsin Avenue for a report of someone urinating in a parking lot. The officer spoke with the complainant, who said Tinoco-Orozco urinated by a vehicle in the parking lot and then went into the store. He was still in the store when the officer arrived. Once he left the store, the officer spoke with Tinoco-Orozco, and he reportedly admitted to the offense.

5:35 p.m.: Tony E. Dinges, 38, of the 300 block of Buckner Court, received a municipal court summons for a charge of possession of marijuana. An officer was dispatched to the area of East 16th Street and South Brown Avenue for a subject check. He saw Dinges tampering with a utility junction box. The officer received consent to search Dinges’ person, and he reportedly found a small bag of marijuana.

9:15 p.m.: Carlos Elie Staten, 30, was arrested on a felony charge of third-degree domestic assault. An officer responded to the 100 block of East 13th Street. He spoke with a woman who said Staten hit her and threatened her with a gun before he ran back into the apartment. She had minor injuries. Officers then entered the apartment where they found and arrested Staten.

Incidents

Feb. 21

3:20 p.m.: An officer was in the 400 block of East Third Street investigating a domestic disturbance. The victim said her live-in boyfriend assaulted her, and she was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment. The officer didn’t find the suspect but is submitting charges against him.

Feb. 22

4:30 a.m.: Officers responded to the 2600 block of East Broadway Boulevard for a report of an alarm. They found the glass on the west door of the business was broken and someone had made entry. The officers cleared the building, and management arrived on scene. It was determined $4,620.72 in merchandise had been stolen.

9:25 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of East 13th Street for the report of a vehicle theft. The caller reported someone stole her vehicle overnight.

Feb. 23

12:25 a.m.: An officer took a report in the police station lobby in reference to a child abuse investigation. The complainant, the child’s mother, said she left her daughter in her father’s care for four days. She said she noticed bruising on her daughter’s leg after picking her up.

Feb. 22

1:10 a.m.: Deputies took a stolen vehicle report in Smithton. The Sedalia Police Department recovered the vehicle before it was reported stolen. SPD officers found the vehicle abandoned after a hit-and-run accident at East Third Street and South Massachusetts Avenue. Investigation continues into the matter.
